Meet John Van Diest

Vice President

Van Diest Supply Company

23 years in business

Background: After getting my BS from Iowa State University, I got married and headed off to Drake to get my MBA. After graduating from Drake, I returned to my hometown of Webster City and joined the family business. My wife, Beth, and I have four children: Jake, Jennifer, James and Jack.

Why I do what I do: Aside from the obvious, the family business, I do what I do because I enjoy it. I am very goal-oriented and I am fortunate to work with a great team of exceptionally talented individuals. I also find it very rewarding watching my fellow team members grow and develop.

What makes my job unique: Every day I have the opportunity to talk to and work with a wide range of people all across the United States, primarily in the Midwest. This opens my eyes and widens my perspective beyond what it would be without this opportunity.

What do I do in my spare time: When I am not working, I enjoy doing yard work, spending time with my family and attending ISU athletic events.

How I give back to my community: I currently serve on the Fuller Trust and have been participating in the Transformational Council. I want to see our community grown and prosper and am happy to help our community in any way I can.

My mentor was: Too numerous to mention. All my life I have had the opportunity to be around people older and much wiser than me. That has been a huge asset for me.
