"Welcome to Jenny's Nook - it's not work, it's not home, it's that comfortable place in between. We may not know you when you come through the door but you are a friend when you leave," - The back of the Mornin' Glory menu.

If you are in need of an energy boost, fresh baked scones or a delicious dish of something homemade, then look no further than Mornin' Glory Coffee Shop.

Owner Jenny Maharry bought the establishment from previous owners Jack and Susan Buser who opened the shop.

"I had always dreamed of opening up a small coffee and sandwich shop where I could also sell eclectic items," Maharry said. "When the Buser's opened Mornin' Glory, I decided not to pursue it."

When the couple decided to retire from the coffee business, they asked Maharry if she wanted to step in.

"When they decided to sell Mornin' Glory, they came to me as they knew I had been interested in the past," she said. "It took me about a month to decide."

What made her decision to buy the establishment was the thought of the place closing down.

"If I did not buy Mornin' Glory, it was going to close," she said. "I knew what a popular place it was for the community."

Maharry purchased the shop on Oct. 18, 2008.

"I closed for two weeks and did a remodel," she said. "We knocked out three walls and opened up the area for better traffic flow and more seating area."

The java house was reopened with a larger amount of square footage for customers, including a meeting room toward the back.

"It's a small gathering space that can hold up to eight people," Maharry said. "Bible study groups, small discussion groups and other groups like to meet there."

A side garden, complete with a fish pond, is available for customers to come and enjoy, to take in the beautiful atmosphere.

Maharry also added gift shop items to Mornin' Glory.

"We have many different gifts available for purchase including vintage items," she said.

From greeting cards to musical cookbooks to antique suitcases, the coffee shop carries many unique selections that can be hard to find.

Several coffee groups meet in the morning hours at Mornin' Glory, which has many tables and a cheery red couch to accommodate the groups.

"It only takes once or twice before I am able to remember favorite drinks of the customers who come in," Maharry said.

Mornin' Glory carries Crimson Coffee supplies for the various coffee drinks available from cappuccinos (more foam) to lattes (less foam).

"My husband (Greg) and I went to Columbus, Ohio for a coffee training course with Crimson," she said.

The most popular drink at the shop is the Mornin' Glory Mocha, which can be served frozen or hot. It is a white chocolate mocha drizzled with caramel and topped with whipped cream.

Younger patrons frequent Mornin' Glory after school to try some of the shop's popular smoothie drinks or frozen mochas.

The shop also offers many food items from breakfast food to lunch cuisine.

Loretta Sandholm, along with Maharry and Doreen Ogden, make the food that is available to customers.

"I was originally hired as a barista," Sandholm said. "When Jenny opened the business, I became more involved with the food-end of the business."

Sandholm had worked with In Good Company, in Stratford, for six years previous to working at Mornin' Glory.

"My culinary background has been trial and error from age 10," she said. "If something doesn't work, I try something else.

Sandholm makes homemade bread, such as focaccia and oatmeal, for the various sandwiches served.

Mornin' Glory has a featured lunch item on its daily menu.

"I love making salads," Sandholm said. "I am looking forward to making those again. I like the 'farmers market concept.' I enjoy bringing herbs and vegetables from my own garden."

Right now, Sandholm features various comfort food for the season, such as her Hot Chicken Salad.

New items are always added to the menu as the culinary team enjoys experimenting with different recipes.

Maharry has a staff of six part-time workers.

Mornin' Glory has a definite local flair, with its warmth and friendliness.

"We offer a 'pay it forward' service," Maharry said. "You can buy a friend a cup of coffee and post it on our wall for them to see."

The shop also has been active in raising funds and items for local charities and groups.

The shop is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, call Mornin' Glory Coffee Shop at 832-1897.
