DFJ earns awards from INA
Staff honored for columns, sports writingThe Daily Freeman-Journal staff brought home several first-place awards from the Iowa Newspaper Foundation Better Newspaper Contest, presented during the Iowa Newspaper Association Annual Convention banquet Friday in Des Moines.
Sports Editor Troy Banning was awarded first place honors for the Best Sports Columnist category, Best Sports Story and Best Special Section for the Winter Sports Preview.
Managing Editor Anne Blankenship received first place in the Master Columnist category.
Other awards included: Best Sports Pages, third place; Best Editorial Pages, third place; Best Headline Writing, third place; Best Blog, second place.
The advertising department also earned several awards, including: Best Ad Featuring Financial, Insurance or Other Professional Service - Windsor Manor, second place; Best Ad Designer, Kenneth Baker, second place; Best Newspaper Marketing, third place; and Best Ad Featuring Financial, Insurance or Other Professional Service - First State Bank, third place.
The Iowa Newspaper Foundation Better Newspaper Contest entries were judged by the Michigan Press Association. More than 4,000 entries were received in dozens of categories and in several divisions for daily and weekly newspapers.
