Joining last year's inaugural class of 14, nine will be honored inside the Prem Sahai Auditorium when the festivities get underway at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend and honor these individuals who have helped to shape the Lynx athletic department over the years.
Up for enshrinement this year are: Keith Bahrenfuss, Class of 1953; Terry Roberts, Class of 1957; Frank Reinhardt, Class of 1962; Boak Desmond, Class of 1971; Tim Anderson, Class of 1984; Monica Malloy Heinen, Class of 1987; Amy Kantak McCoy, Class of 1988; Jean Mowry, longtime girls' golf coach; and the Naden Family/Naden Industries.
"Overall, the (selection) committee has really tried to focus on getting some of the really big achievers into the Hall of Fame," WCHS athletic director Bob Howard said. "That's what you would expect a Hall of Fame group to be and that's what we've got with this group. There are lots of accomplishments and achievements in this group."
Here is a more in-depth look at this year's class:
Keith Bahrenfuss
A three-time letter winner and an all-North Central Conference football player, Bahrenfuss went on to play at Iowa State Teachers
College (now UNI) from 1953-1957. But he was just as instrumental in shaping WCHS athletics as a coach and athletic director once he returned to his hometown.
Bahrenfuss coached for 34 years, 31 of them as an assistant for Harley Rollinger and Dick Tighe on the football field. During that span, Webster City never had a losing season and won more than 80 percent of its games.
Bahrenfuss served as the school's athletic director from 1967-1991. He was responsible for starting the girls' athletic program in 1972, and he also got the cross country program off the ground and resurrected the wrestling program. He was named the District Athletic Director of the Year in 1989.
Terry Roberts
Roberts earned multiple letters and all-NCC honors in football, basketball and track. He went on to play basketball at Iowa State and was a multiple-year letter winner. After college he was an Iowa High School administrator, teacher and coach for 35 years, 24 of them spent at Cardinal of Eldon High School.
Frank Reinhardt
A three-year starter at running back and linebacker on the football field, Reinhardt earned all-conference, all-state and all-America honors. He rushed for 2,444 yards and 49 touchdowns during his prep career and averaged an astounding 6.96 yards per carry.
He won a total of 11 prep letters in football, basketball and track.
Reinhardt received a football scholarship to the University of Iowa and he started on the freshman team at fullback.
Boak Desmond
Desmond earned eight letters in track and cross country and captured one state track title in the 880-yard run in 1971. He was also second at the state cross country meet and was the 440 runner-up in 1971.
At Iowa State, he lettered six times in the two sports. He earned numerous awards at the national level in distance running.
Tim Anderson
A nine-time letter winner in football, wrestling and track, Anderson made a name for himself on the gridiron and eventually landed in Iowa City on the Hawkeye squad. At Iowa he earned four letters and served as a graduate assistant coach.
At WCHS, Anderson was a first-team all-state performer in 1983 and garnered honorable mention all-America status from USA Today. He was also a two-time state qualifier on the wrestling mat.
Monica Malloy Heinen
This four-sport star hoarded eight first-team all-NCC accolades in volleyball, basketball, golf and softball. She also earned special mention all-state status in volleyball and basketball.
On the golf course, the former Monica Malloy qualified for the state meet twice and in 1987 claimed the individual title.
She went on to play volleyball and basketball at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
Amy Kantak McCoy
Webster City's all-time leading scorer on the hardwood, the former Amy Kantak finished her six-on-six career with 1,942 points and averaged 37.9 points per game over her career. She also holds the school record for points in a game (56).
Kantak McCoy lettered three times in volleyball and basketball and twice in softball. She went on to attend Northwest Missouri State on a basketball scholarship and played in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
Jean Mowry
Arguably the most recognized lady in the game of golf in Iowa, Mowry spent 30 years directing the Lynx girls' program and led her 2000 team to the Class 2A state championship.
Mowry was named the Iowa Golf Coach of the Year in 2001, and a year later was named to the Regional Hall of Fame and was a finalist for the National High School Coach of the Year honor.
Mowry could also play the game quite well, as she won seven consecutive Iowa Women's Golf Association Senior titles.
In addition to her work with the golf program, Mowry spent 17 years as middle school girls' basketball coach and 14 years coaching with the middle school volleyball program.
Naden Family/Naden Industries
William Naden was a pioneer in the athletic scoreboard industry in the state of Iowa with sons Gardner and Bob, and also grandson Russ, running the family business.
The Naden family contributed not only scoreboards, but time and energy to the WCHS athletic department, as they operated scoreboards, worked at the athletic events and serviced the boards.
For their services, the Naden family will forever be a "friend to the program."
